“Mr. Libby was not concerned about losing his job in the Bush administration. He was concerned about being set up, he was concerned about being made the scapegoat.”

Those explosive charges were the words spoken by Scooter Libby’s own defense team during opening statements.

The likes of Libby’s boss Dick Cheney and deputy chief of staff Karl Rove were on the defense’s witness list.

In the end, neither Rover nor Cheney were called. The defense never did follow up on it’s statement that Scooter Libby was the scapegoat or “fall guy”.

It doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots here. In order to avoid explosive charges and embarrasing testimony, the White House has already offered a pardon to Scooter Libby. Granted, it’s only speculation, but it’s the only thing that makes sense.
