According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Joyce Walker of Chicago was awarded a settlement of $4,110 for a workplace injury she had suffered. According to her claim, she injured her knee after slipping on a banana peel in a hospital restroom.
Saddam Hussein Sues

The Defendant: Le Nouvel Observateur, a French magazine
The Lawsuit: In an article about Hussein, the magazine described him as a “monster,” an “executioner,” “a complete cretin,” and a “noodle.” Saddam sued for libel.
The Verdict: Case dismissed.
Lawsuit: Bad Hair Day
The Plaintiff: Victoria Baldwin
The Defendant: Synergy, a hair salon in Sydney, Australia
The Lawsuit: In July of 1996, Baldwin had her hair cut at the salon. The result was so bad, she complained, that it made her “look like Hillary Clinton.” She sued for damages, plus reimbursement for money spent on hats to cover her head until the hair grew back.
The Verdict: Baldwin won $750, plus $234 for the hats.

The $64 Million Pants
When the local Washington D.C. dry cleaner lost Roy Pearson’s pants, he was not happy. He complained, demanded compensation, and took action. And boy, did he take action. Roy Pearson is suing Custom Cleaners for $65,462,500 for his lost pair of trousers, with a claimed value of $800.
So how did Pearson get to a $65 million lawsuit from an $800 pair of trousers? Washington’s consumer protection law provides for damages of $1,500 per violation per day. Pearson began multiplying: 12 violations over 1,200 days, times three defendants. A pant leg here, a pant leg there, and soon, he’s up to his $65 million lawsuit.
Andy Griffith Files Lawsuit Against Andy Griffith
The former William Fenrick, of Grant County Wisconsin, recently ran for sheriff under an usual name. William Fenrick legally had his named changed to Andy Griffith. As Mr. Fenrick admitted, the sole purpose of the change in name was an effort to gain additional votes. Not amused, the real Andy Griffith has filed a lawsuit against Fenrick to have his name changed back. To make matters worse, Fenrick lost the election.

The Lawsuit: In the 1200’s, a swarm of mosquitoes were indicted as a public nuisance by the people of the town. When the bugs failed to answer the summons, the court appointed a lawyer to act on their behalf.
The Verdict: The lawyer did such a good job pleading their case that the court took pity. The judge banished them, bug gave them a patch of real estate outside town where they would be allowed to swarm in peace “forever.”
