McCain Sinks To New Low – Sells Soul
July 26th, 2008
Mere months after after promising a clean campaign focused on issues, John McCain leads with the first swift boat type ad of the season. The GOP’s presumptuous nominee’s ad, called “Troops”, accuses his rival, Barack Obama, of the debunked claim that he dissed wounded troops because of lack of cameras.
Obama, who has previously visited wounded troops without reporters or cameras at Walter Reed in late June and in Iraq this past week, had planned on this stop also being free of press and cameras. The Pentagon had originally approved the stop on July 15th before sending conflicting information to the Obama staff the day before the scheduled stop – which is what caused the cancellation.
The ad:
McCain previously stated this:
How can we possibly find honor in using the fate of our servicemen to score political advantage in Washington? There is no pride to be had in such efforts. We are at war, a hard and challenging war, and we do no service for the best of us-those who fight and risk all on our behalf-by playing politics with their service. [Congressional Record, 5/24/07]
McCain, by his own description, has no pride. Now it’s clear, he has no soul either.

I don’t happen to think there is much democracy left in American presidential elections. Too much theft of executive power from JLK on. But you might be interested in Alan Grayson, Congressional candidate in Florida.
Even if he doesn’t win, he sounds like he’s doing good work.

I certainly do not find any surprise that McCain started with a smear ad, I just hope that Obama sticks to his trend and does not play that game.

“John McCain leads with the first swift boat type ad of the season.”
Uh… Barack came out with an ad last month about McCain saying:
1) Mac’s plan wouldn’t produce oil for 7 years.
2) Mac supported a bill that favored oil companies (perhaps the campaign forgot that Obama voted in favor of that bill, whoops).
3) Mac voted with Bush 95% of the time [in '07].
So technically, Barack “lead with the first swift-boat type ad of the season.”
